Policies Overview & Framework

POLICY OVERVIEW & FRAMEWORK

The Board of Trustees is accountable for achieving the best possible outcomes for all students attending Linwood Intermediate School.

The Board is expected to govern, not manage. It develops and works from policies, not procedures. The difference is set out below:

POLICIES

PROCEDURES

  • Set the direction the Board expects the school to go in
  • Reflect sound governance
  • Provide guidance for the Board’s decision making
  • Are a reference point for internal and external review
  • Are formally adopted by the Board and recorded in its Minutes
  • Are reviewed every 3 years at a minimum
  • Are management systems to support and implement the School’s policies
  • Are communicated to all staff and training is provided as necessary
  • Are reported on to the Board as appropriate, to inform it how much progress is being made in implementing its policies
  •

The Board operates in a web of government legislation/acts, ministerial regulations, Ministry guidelines, advice etc. The 3 core/key documents directing boards and the schools they govern are:

    NATIONAL ADMINISTRATION GUIDELINES:

The government’s GOALS for the education of all New Zealanders
