Employer Responsibility Policy
Linwood Intermediate School acts as a “good employer” as defined in the State Sector Act 1988 and other pertinent legislation governing employment practices. It complies with the conditions set out in the employment contracts for teaching and non-teaching staff.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for ensuring that all its employees are treated fairly and properly, including:
- the impartial recruitment and selection of suitably qualified persons for vacancies
- recognition of the employment aspirations and requirements of:
- Maori people
- Other ethnic or minority groups
- People with disabilities
- employment agreements for all staff, individual or collective
- registration of those staff who are required to be, or possession of a current Limited Authority to Teach
- good and safe working conditions, including a smoke free environment
- opportunities for individual employees to develop their professional skills and abilities
- annual performance appraisal of all staff
- recognition of the right of all staff to personal dignity, safety, and access to approved, fair and prompt internal dispute processes
- provision of Protective Disclosure protection
- effective privacy of all personal documentation held by the school
The Board of Trustees has an oversight role for employer responsibility of the School. The Board delegates the day-to-day implementation and management to the Principal who will report on the School’s performance to the Board as agreed.
This delegation includes the authority to negotiate agreements with all employees within the parameters of the relevant collective or individual employment agreements, and the maintenance of effective employment procedures that promote high standards of teaching and support to all staff.
